Thursday, January 10th at 5AM Greg and I drove in the cold, dark morning to the new Mills Peninsula Hopsital for a repeat Cesearan Section that would bring us Sienna Louise Notte. Born at 8:01 at 7 pounds, 13 ounces and 19 inches in length she arrived while I was trying to stay zen by listening to Edder Vedder's Into the Wild, Thievery Corporation, Enya and a variety of other tunes on my Chill Out Playlist I put together the previous day. That previous day included me working. Although I got a lot of "you're crazy!" I had the previous two weeks off for Winter/Christmas Break and literally had nothing else to do or rather, wanted not to sit around, I wanted to be busy. Let's back up...
Christmas was quite sweet and special. We were lucky to be part of a rotation of great friend's inviations for various celebrations. We kicked it off with Christmas Eve dinner Notte style at our house. We went up to SF and got great meats and cheeses. I made two veggie lasanges, rice balls and, together with great help from Cody, four kinds of Christmas cookies. Our back room looked like an Amazon distribution center and after our friends had left we brought out presents and Greg put together Cody's work station.
Christmas morning Cody thought it was cooler that Santa had eaten the cookies and drank the milk rather than him getting a huge pile of presents. We hung out in our pjs until noon slowing openng presents and Skyping with family. I got Greg a couple camping related items, optimistic that camping is still part of our future with two kids. He got me great boots, work out clothes and several fun things for our kitchen. Cody loved his rocket from Uncle Jonny and his car garge and work station. That night we ate at Cherie's. The Goldfarbs and Cherie have become such a part of our CA family, it was nice to spend the holidays with them. That family also includes the Griggs, we saw them on Christmas Eve then went over there for a chill New Year's Eve. I was feeling pretty big and ready to be done being pregnant. I can't believe right now I am done being pregant and Sienna is sitting next to be in the hospital!
One of my favorite parts of the holiday break was New Year's Day. We drove over to the Ritz at Half Moon Bay on a sunny day and set up a blanket on the ocean. The waves were big, Cody and Greg built a big castle, I did yoga and we enjoyed the day. There was a neaby waterfall-such a beautiful location and free parking at the Ritz. Then we went to the hotel and enjoyed a great lunch outside around a fire pit. Cody claimed the hot chocolate as delicious! At night we had a great meal at the Goldfarbs where they spent a good portion trying to guess baby's name.
Throughout the week we "nested" by organizing tons of baby clothes from Mandy, booked a Tahoe ski vacation for March and reorganzed baby furniture and toys throughout the house. Then Tuesday, right on time, my mom came. Wednesday I worked a little in the morning then we finished our stockpiling of food and supplies and drove the typical driving routes she'd be driving. We had a great last meal of Chez Saigon and had a somewhat restful night.
Thursday morning, as mentioned, we had to get to the hospital by 5:30 AM. It is a nice, new hospital and we got to check into our recovery room first. After a lot of checking in stuff and waiting, I had to go solo to the OR to get prepped for the surgery. The epidural wasn't that painful and the whole thing went fast. Though there was a lot of pressure, there wasn't much pain...espeially after the doc gave me an additional boast of something great during the repair part of the sugery. We had received great advice from the doula that worked out. She advised us to ask about skin to skin in the OR during the repair and then to delay her bath until we could all be together in the recovery room. Both things didn't happen with Cody and it was great to be part of those bonding moments with Sienna. Speaking of Cody....
Mom was doing great watching him and keeping silent on what had happened that night. Apparently, Cody was sick and getting sick in bed Thursday night, throughout the day Friday, Saturday morning and late night. It's a bummer. He hasn't been to meet his sister, Greg went home Friday and stayed until Saturday night to comfort him. Me and See Lou chilled together, listened to music, read, and had developed a great nursing connection. My mom came for the afternoon and we walked around the unit. It's been amazing the difference in recovery so far. I feel great, easily have been out of bed, had a shower, walked around, nursed.. So although I've been sad and empathetic for Cody and my mom, we're doing well here. We could have been discharged today (Sunday) but probably are going to leave tomorrow to make sure Cody is better, not contagious and the house has been disinfected. Now Greg is watching football, I just Skyped with my dad and finally caught up on this. We're happy to be a family of four and will be even happier when we're all together and healthy.
