The Full Spectrum: from music to madness back to fun
So yeah, we came back from Turks and Caicos and relaxed for a second then repacked our bags and headed to New Orleans for Mike's 40th bday celebration at the Jazz and Heritage Festival's 1st weekend. It was so awesome and recommedable to all music lovers with and without kids. We stayed in a VRBO in the Garden District. Met a "cabbie" friend Dennis to drive us all around. Jazzfest is set up at a horse track with 6 different stages featuring jazz, gospel, folk, rock etc. Both Cody and Mavis did really well considering it was in the 80s, humid, and a lot of people. But, it was quite family friendly-they had a special kid's tent, kid's food and farther from the stages there was room to set up, let Cody run about and make new friends and jam out to Ce Lo, Fiest, Gomez, Steal Pulse and many more. We went almost all day both Friday and Saturday from noon until 7PM. Cody even managed daily naps under a tree in his stroller. At night we all quickly showered and the kids ate then Dependable Kid Care sent a nice woman over to watch them while we went out for round two of music. It was great because we got to put the kids to bed and they did great both nights and the woman was super nice and recommended. Friday night we saw an awesome Charlie Hunter show at the Maple Leaf Bar. It was AWESOME! Then Saturday we went to the French Quarter and all the music was happening on Frenchmen Street. Brooke and I stayed for the first band from 11-almost 3AM and our darlin hubbies rocked out until 5ish when Mike got hit in the face by a claw from a guy dressed in a crawfish costume jumping off the stage. (I literally thought he was joking for about 36 hours.) It was so great to hang with Brooke and Mike and Mavis. The kids played really well with each other and I think will be fine with our marriage plans. We have to vaca with them more often. The last time was for my 30th in Costa Rica. "Implied" fun and lay 'em down great music 2012! But then disease struck. Wait first we finally after 6 years of 1 car bought a new car, another subbie of course; though we drove everything to make sure. It's our first new car and she's beautiful, maybe she's a he cause it's 6 cylinders and big and likes to drive off road already. Our first road trip with her was last weekend to Roaring Camp Steamtrain in Felton near Santa Cruz. It was a nice train ride , but Cody laid down on it. Should have raise suspicion, but we thought he was tired from the previous weekend. Then we drove along the ocean back home on Highway 1 and took some new car pics. Then he spiked a fever, but we went to the Goldfarbs for a fun BBQ thinking he was just hot from the hot day. We are rookie rents after all. Then to make it super bad on Sunday I invited over our neighbor's daughter to play with him at his water table. Then it got bad. Cody was diagnosed Monday after NOT SLEEPING 1 HOUR! with Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease a wicked contagious infection upon which he got a bacteria infection on top of the rash growing around his mouth. It was pretty bad, but worse to hear that the neighbor girl had gotten it too. Then I found out it had already attacked his daycare the previous week cuz his besties there had it but our daycare lady didn't know-thought it was just a rash. So lesson learned, when your kid strikes a fever first quarantine them, look up symptoms, and pray for a short period of awfulness. At least we all like Finding Nemo-since Greg and I alternated watching it back to back on Sunday from 3-5AM. Now he's better and Paige, Mom and Dad are here having a good time. We've been up to the city twice, today going to the Exploratorium. This week we're finishing our state testing and finishing the regular boys soccer season. Go Bobcats, I hope the guys can hold it together academically to make it to the playoffs-they're good kids and we're happy to have our good little guy back to 100% fun.
